About the Event

Day 1. The Fundamentals of Human Nutrition. Macronutrients. Micronutrients. Digestion. Malabsorption syndrome. Metabolism. Day 2. Diet, Lifestyle and Health. Diet related disorders and symptoms. Educational aids. Food selection guides and diagnostic tools. Day 3. Food Selection and Dietary Evaluation.  

Day 4. Factors that influence food choices. Disordered eating. Selection & prep. of food. Devt. of healthy eating patterns. Behaviour modifications. 

Individual concerns and challenges will be accommodated throughout the week.

A unique revision guide will be presented by the presenter to each registrant.

Seminar Leader: Mr Graeme Hudson B Sc (Health) B Ed (Secondary) Graeme has taught Stage 1 and Stage 2 Nutrition for over 7 years and is a previous marker of Stage 2 Nutrition.  Graeme has a strong passion for assisting students apply their knowledge and understanding of Nutrition concepts.   Graeme's students have consistently gained excellent results in their assessments and exams. 

Seminar Leader: Ms Jana Pitsadiotis B Nutrition and Food Science, MEd (Biology and Nutrition) Jana has many years experience teaching Stage 2 Nutrition and has at her current school implemented the Stage 1 and Stage 2 Nutrition programs.

By covering the above topics, students will be well prepared for any trial and mid year exams. In addtion they will have completed the necessary revision for the end of year exam which has the following requirements:

The Nutrition examination is an e-exam that is assessed externally

Students undertake a 130-minute external examination.

Stage 2 science enquiry skills and nutrition understanding will be assessed from the following concepts:

  • principles of nutrition, physiology and health
  • Health promotion and emerging trends
  • Sustainable food systems

Questions will include case studies or scenarios; application of knowledge and skills to different contexts; and analysis and interpretation of data or information.

The following specific features of the assessment design criteria for this subject may be assessed in the external examination:

  • knowledge and application 
  • investigation, analysis and evaluation

Pursuant to the following concepts:

Nutrition is a 20-credit subject at Stage 2 that consists of the following interrelated concepts:

  • Principles of nutrition, physiology, and health
  • Health promotion and emerging trends
  • Sustainable food systems
  • Nutrition literacy and numeracy
  • Nutrition and technology.

The three strands of science to be integrated throughout student learning are:

  • Science inquiry skills
  • Science as a human endeavor
  • Nutrition science understanding
