About the event

Day 1: Differentiation. First principles,chain rule,product rule,quotient rule as applied to functions xn,ex,ln x and trig functions. Day 2: Equation solving for the above functions. Applications of calculus to tangents and graphing. 

Day 3: Further appls. of calculus to rates of change,motion & optimization. 

Day 4: Integration fundamental ideas and processes. 

The above topics cover the Calculus content of the SACE Subject Outline and corresponds to the first half of the Haese textbook. 

Students are requested to bring their Graphics Calculator.

Tony has been teaching for over 40 years and has been a Mathematics Coordinator for 29 years. 

In past years Tony has been invited to lecture on methodology at Year 12 Mathematics teacher conferences and was a current co-author of the Year 12 Haese and Haese Mathematics publications.

By covering the above topics, students will be well prepared for any trial and mid year exams. In addtion they will have completed the necessary revision for the end of year exam which has the following requirements:

At Stage 2, the SACE Board marks the 30 per cent external assessment component of all subjects. External assessment takes a range of forms, depending on the subject, including:

  • written examinations
  • oral examinations
  • investigations
  • performances.

Stage 2 Mathematical Methods consists of the following six topics:

· Topic 1: Further differentiation and applications

· Topic 2: Discrete random variables

· Topic 3: Integral calculus

· Topic 4: Logarithmic functions

· Topic 5: Continuous random variables and the normal distribution

· Topic 6: Sampling and confidence intervals
