About the Event

Day 1: Mathematical Induction. Complex Numbers Part 1.

Day 2: Complex Numbers Part 2.

Day 3: Functions & Graphs.

Day 4: Vectors.

Students are requested to bring their Graphics Calculator. This covers about 60% of the course and is intended to not only reinforce the work covered to date but also give a head-start on the work to come.

Seminar Leader: Mr John Brazzatti B Ma Sc (Hons) Dip Ed Grad Dip Ed John has been teaching senior SACE Mathematics for more than 30 years and International Baccalaureate Maths for 10 years.

Many of his SACE students have achieved excellent results over the years.

Individual concerns and challenges will be accommodated throughout the week.

By covering the above topics, students will be well prepared for any trial and mid year exams. In addtion they will have completed the necessary revision for the end of year exam which has the following requirements:

At Stage 2, the SACE Board marks the 30 per cent external assessment component of all subjects. External assessment takes a range of forms, depending on the subject, including:

  • written examinations
  • oral examinations
  • investigations
  • performances.

Pursuant to the following required topics:

The topics in Stage 2 extend students’ mathematical experience and their mathematical flexibility and versatility, in particular, in the areas of complex numbers and vectors. The general theory of functions, differential equations, and dynamic systems provides opportunities to analyse the consequences of more complex laws of interaction.

Specialist Mathematics topics provide different scenarios for incorporating mathematical arguments, proofs, and problem-solving.

Stage 2 Specialist Mathematics consists of the following six topics:

· Topic 1: Mathematical induction

· Topic 2: Complex numbers

· Topic 3: Functions and sketching graphs

· Topic 4: Vectors in three dimensions

· Topic 5: Integration techniques and applications

· Topic 6: Rates of change and differential equations.

The suggested order of the topics is a guide only; however, students study all six topics.
