12 Maths Methods

This is the old Maths Studies course and includes topics from both the Maths Studies and Maths Methods courses.
An external exam is part of the assessment criteria and is weighted at 30%. ALL STUDENTS MUST STUDY TOPICS 1,2 AND 3.

Day 1. Topic 1: Further Differentiation.

Subtopic 1.1: Introductory Differential Calculus
Subtopic 1.2: Differentiation Rules
Subtopic 1.3: Exponential Functions
Subtopic 1.4: Trigonometric Functions

Day 2. Topic 1: Further Differentiation and Applications.

Subtopic 1.2,1.3,1.4: Applications of Calculus to tangents,
Calculus and graphs,Rates of Change and Kinematics.

Day 3. Topic 2: Discrete Random Variables.

Subtopic 2.1: Discrete Random Variables
Subtopic 2.2: The Bernoulli Distribution
Subtopic 2.3: Repeated Bernoulli Trials and the Binomial Distribution
Subtopic 3.1: Anti-differentiation
Subtopic 3.2: The Area under Curves
Subtopic 3.3: Fundamental Theorem of Calculus

Students are requested to bring their Graphics Calculator.

Seminar Leader: Mr Tony Thompson BSc Dip Ed Dip T Grad Dip Ed Admin. 
Tony has been teaching for 45 years and has been a Mathematics Coordinator for 29 years. 
In recent years Tony has been invited to
lecture on methodology at Year 12 Mathematics teacher conferences and is a current co-author of the Year 12 Haese and Haese Mathematics publications.
